چکیده

The occurrence of major avalanche episodes in the Eastern Pyrenees (NE Spain) is estimated by means of the Poisson and the negative binomial distributions, assuming that they are rare events. The differences observed in their spatial distribution along the seven regions in which Eastern Pyrenees have been divided, suggests us to look for spatial variations in the relationship between extreme avalanche episodes and synoptic patterns. Applying principal-component analysis procedure, atmospheric patterns at 500 hPa geopotential height leading major avalanches have been obtained. Looking at their pressure anomalies at 500 hPa, the relation of these patterns respect to the normal atmospheric conditions can be assessed.

Reconstructing snow avalanches in the Southeastern Pyrenees

A regional study of snow avalanche processes was undertaken in the SE Pyrenees. Dendrogeomorphology was used to date and reconstruct large-scale snow avalanche events that occurred in the last four decades. Dendrochronological analyses yielded the dates of nine winters when avalanches occurred in the recent past in six studied avalanche paths. Some of these avalanches were already known, but ot...

Are the Pyrenees a barrier for the transport of birch (Betula) pollen from Central Europe to the Iberian Peninsula?

This work provides a first assessment of the possible barrier effect of the Pyrenees on the atmospheric transport of airborne pollen from Europe to the North of the Iberian Peninsula. Aerobiological data recorded in three Spanish stations located at the eastern, central and western base of the Pyrenees in the period 2004-2014 have been used to identify the possible long range transport episodes...

Atmospheric circulation influence on the interannual variability of snow pack in the Spanish Pyrenees during the second half of the 20th century

Large areas in the Spanish Pyrenees are covered by snow between December and April, especially above 1650m a.s.l., the location of the cold season 08C isotherm. However, a significant negative trend in Pyrenean snow pack was detected during the second half of the 20th century. This paper analyses the interannual evolution of snow accumulation in these mountains in relation to the variability of...

Spanish avalanche research : experimental sites and seismic measurements Recherches espagnoles dans le domaine des avalanches : sites expérimentaux et mesures sismiques

Seismic signals generated by avalanches have been studied by the avalanche team of the Universitat de Barcelona since 1994. The aim of the study is to understand the avalanche seismic signals in relation to their sources to obtain information on the avalanche dynamics and hence use seismic measurements for monitoring purposes. To this end, experiments focused on improving the knowledge of seism...

Considering the nature and structure of atmospheric weathering while the occurrence of daily dry periods in west and northwest of Iran

In this research, coding the rainfalls, prepares daily 45 stations with the statistical period of 20 years to zero and one codes to realize the daily dry periods in west and north west of the country and then, by establishing the main condition of occurrence of code one for 30 stations, we extracted the dry 4 to 10-day frequencies. And the results gained of considering the atmospheric weatherin...
